Fire Fields
I set out to paint a landscape of the beautiful grounds around the
Metropolitan State Institutional Hospital in Waltham, Massachusetts,
when a mysterious brushfire broke out. I barely had time to finish what
I was working on when the firemen arrive to extinguish the blaze and
ordered me to evacuate the field immediately, during the summer of 1974.
